Frequently Asked Questions

We open from 8am to 5.30pm. We are currently looking at extending our opening hours from 7.45am-5.30pm.

We exceed Ministry of Education’s requirement. Our staff to child ratios are 1:7 in Paua Room (over 2s) and 1:3 for Pipi Room (under 2s).

We believe it is beneficial for your child to attend on a regular basis to ensure they feel comfortable and confident and develop their sense of belonging. We have a minimum requirement of 6 hours per day, 2 days a week for all children.

We provide breakfast, morning tea, lunch, after tea, late snack and dinner.
A bag, labelled with their name on. Change of clothes, with their name on. Sun hat during summer time. Labelled milk bottles and formula. Nappies. Drink bottle (over 2s).

The transition for a child from home to childcare is an important milestone for children and families. This transition can be challenging and emotional for both the parent and the child. Therefore, we offer orientations for all ages in support of the transition process.

During this orientation time, we invite families to come and visit the centre, meet the teachers and make themselves familiar with the centre 2 weeks prior to a child’s commencement. This will give you and your child time to build confidence and comfort in their new surroundings.

When your child displays signs that they are ready to transition into their next age group room, we will begin a room transition with them. In this time we encourage parents to support us by speaking with your child, spending drop-off and pick-up time in the new room and using the opportunity to embrace your child’s achievements.

If you are ready to enrol at Crackerjax, you can contact us to request a tour. Please keep in mind spaces are limited, and your acceptance of enrolment application is subject to availability.
Allergies are taken very seriously. All allergies are clearly posted in the appropriate rooms and the kitchen. If the allergy is life threatening an individual plan for that child will be developed with the parent. This will include warning symptoms, specific instructions, and a procedure to follow. All staff, volunteers, and students read and sign each allergy plan. Children with food allergies will receive a “safe” alternative prepared by the cook.
We expect common colds and runny noses, however we trust parents to know if their child is too sick to attend. If a child spikes a fever, has diarrhea or vomiting, we will call you to pick them up. Our policy is that they are fever free without medication for 24 hours before returning and that diarrhea or vomiting has subsided for 48 hours. A specific illness will have its own criteria, (e.g. Hand, Foot and Mouth).
